Mold Facts & News Articles

Existing Commercial or Public Buildings

Ever notice musky smells, stained ceiling tiles and black spots on varying surfaces? You can bet it is mold.

Since we know that mold produces spores that become airborne, it follows that the HVAC is going to pick these spores up and transport them throughout the indoor environment.

Now we have two problems: Indoor Air Quality and Contaminated Surfaces

The public is ingesting and inhaling these microorganisms and those microorganisms that are not recirculated are settling on surfaces – ceiling tiles, carpets, walls and furniture.

Indoor Air Quality can be affected by the following:

  1. Particles: mold spores, bacteria, pollen, dead skin
  2. Odors: pets, potpourri
  3. Gases: cleaners, paints
  4. Biopollutants: super bugs, staph
  5. Temperature
  6. Humidity
  7. Comfort: air movement

What is the building owner, municipality, agency or business owner to do?

First of all, none of these entities are required to do anything – there is no federal legislation regulating levels of mold intrusion.

The answer to the question is a sanitization or remediation protocol tailored to the specific need and an application of Bac-Shield to surfaces.

Best Training Schools who trains mold inspectors, mold remediators, biocide applicators, etc. says:

“When addressing IAQ problems, SURFACE contamination must also be considered.
There are some very good IAQ solutions that are extremely pro-active in their approach to solve indoor air quality problems, however, surface contamination is so prolific, in most cases, air purification cannot keep up with the contamination. Contact transmission is one of the most common reasons for the spread of bacteria, viruses and their subsequent illnesses, so in every environment, surface cleaning and protecting is equally important to air purification.”

It is more than likely with an interior mold contamination that spores have been circulated throughout by HVAC. Since Bac-Shield was originally developed as an antimicrobial for the textile industry, Bac-Shield should be applied to all surfaces in the building – not just remediated or sanitized surfaces. The delivery system is fogging and misting. With this treatment, Bac-Shield will prevent the growth of microorganisms which cause mold/mildew and odor.

Another amazing trait of Bac-shield is that once applied to surfaces, those surfaces can be cleaned with normal cleaning procedures and not compromise the efficacy of Bac-Shield.

Mold Solutions, Inc. will provide a recommended protocol for routine maintenance which will assist the building owner in developing a clean air environment for years to come.
